Description

About HSIB Our investigations are delivered through two programmes: national and maternity. There are differences in how they are carried out and how reports are published but the aims are the same: to share learning and to make safety recommendations that improve safety at a national level. We are currently going through transition to become the Health Services Safety Investigations Body. At the same time our maternity investigations programme will move to be hosted by the Care Quality Commission. To find out more about us please visit https://www.hsib.org.uk. HSIB staff are required to complete safety investigations often involving traumatic events and encounters, such as death and serious injury. To reduce the level of vicarious trauma to staff, it is proposed that people appointed to or working within those roles identified as high risk roles at HSIB (MNSI and HSSIB) are supported by a psychological screening and monitoring service. The health and wellbeing service required should include: • Role risk assessment to identify high risk roles. • Pre-employment psychological screening to measure current wellbeing. • At agreed intervals, ongoing screening and surveillance of wellbeing. • Provision to self-refer between standard screenings. • Structured interviews with clinical staff if screening identifies a further assessment of wellbeing is required. • Management advice if further intervention is required and what intervention is recommended. • Therapy provided on a case by case basis as required. • Management information delivered securely to monitor screening, referral and interventions whilst maintaining confidentiality. • Information to evaluate wellbeing issues and to measure impact of the programme. • Team resilience sessions as required to provide clinical supervision. • Education and training to include introduction to and evidence base of the programme. • Evaluation of programme.
