Description
Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) has undertaken a review of Health Professional Education and Training Services delivered to NHS Wales. HEIW has sought to commission a part-time Practitioner Training Programme (PTP), Healthcare Science education for Clinical Engineering, Pathology (Life Sciences), and Audiology.

1 | Audiology Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is a key stakeholder in healthcare science transformation in Wales. Traditionally, individuals achieve Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) status by undertaking a BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Science full time over 3 years, including academic study and work-based learning. HEIW is committed to commissioning part time education to enable people already employed in the NHS, to access a BSc programme alongside existing employment to achieve Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) status. This education is a type of apprenticeship model that will enable people to train whilst remaining in the workforce. HEIW sought to commission three 240 credit programmes in Audiology, Clinical Engineering and Pathology, leading to the award of a BSc (Hons) for each of the specialities. In order to gain entry to the programme staff must have completed the 120 credit Level 4 Apprenticeship in Healthcare Sciences, Higher Education Certificates or equivalent. |

Pathology (Life sciences) education must also be available as stand-alone modules to enable them to be accessed by Students with an existing relevant degree e.g. BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences to achieve PTP through degree assessment. The IBMS assess existing degree content and determine which additional modules from the full 240 credits a Student needs to complete. |

Other Information
The Contract shall commence on the Effective Date (1st December 2023). Implementation period from 1st December 2023 to 31st July 2024. Delivery of the Programme shall commence on the Services Commencement Date (1st August 2024) and the Contract shall continue until expiry on 31st July 2029 unless extended under the provisions of the contract being three, 12-month intervals up to 31st July 2032. These are Light Touch services, the procurement procedure followed was a procedure akin to the Open Procedure (WA Ref:134319)
