Legal Justification
Market analysis shows they are the only children's bereavement service in Cornwall. For those consenting and wishing to access support, bereavement counselling is available either 121 or through group. Access to resources, memory days and memory boxes. No limit on how often people can access the offer including over time and into adulthood. County wide across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Individuals, families can access the offer but close-knit communities such as a school are also supported where a loss of a pupil or member of staff occurs, and help is requested. Systems are required to have by 31 March 2024 100% coverage of bereavement support services for those experiencing difficulties following someone taking their own life. Building on the existing children and young people general bereavement support, the Postvention service for children and young people expanded to take on additional capacity to resource a new joint pathway with the adult Suicide Liaison Service. The service provides bereavement champion training to schools, providing the opportunity for schools to have access to specialist training that they can take back into their own schools. The service works as part of a group providing workforce development training and is part of the Cornwall Bereavement Network.
