Description

His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) Approved Premises, (AP) offer an enhanced level of public protection in the community and are used primarily for high and very high risk of serious harm individuals released on licence from custody. This is typically following serious violence and/or sexual offences. APs thus act as a half-way house between prison and home, and have two main roles: - to support the resettlement and rehabilitation of individuals who have committed serious offences - to support the safety of other people in individuals' early months in the community. APs are staffed 24 hours a day and impose various constraints on residents' freedoms. During their stay, AP residents are required to: - engage in rehabilitative activities - work on their offending-based behaviours and attitudes - attend any relevant treatment or intervention programmes. As part of their day-to-day duties Probation Service staff may come across incidences of violence and aggression. Staff need to be trained in managing violence and aggression with particular emphasis on non-contact de-escalation techniques. Training needs to be flexible combining face-to-face and virtual aspects to cover the needs of Approved Premises staff and all other staff that are offender facing. We are looking for a training provider to deliver training to approximately 700 probation staff over a two year five month period. The high-level requirements of delivering training to staff based in Approved Premises (AP) in managing violence and aggression without contact. The expectation is that the training will be delivered virtually, via an electronic communications platform. There may be a requirement to run a very small number of courses on a face to face basis, but the bulk will be virtual. The supplier will be expected to provide the appropriate Training Manual for use during the course.
